Funrun

12 08 2008

Last Friday Finn’s kinder group had a wee funrun in honour of the Olympics and to raise yet more money for the kinder. Leila and I went along to cheer the boy on and he did splendidly well.

The funrun wasn’t so much a run as an obstacle course around the kinder playground. The kids had to walk along beams , climb through rings and a tunnel, jump on a little trampoline and slide down the slide, amongst other things. I was really impressed that Finn managed to do 8 laps of the course in the alloted time.

He fell at one stage and hurt himself a bit, but didn’t want to stop. I convinced him to have a break at the end of the lap to have a drink and get the snot and tears wiped off. Then he was back out and into it like a trooper.

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

19 07 2008

Just today the owner of a bar left a comment on Finn’s blog. I am not anti-bar (far from it) but this is not what I would expect on a kid’s blog. Unless his name was Finn of course.

Finn Henry’s

It helps that this bar looks well appointed and fun. Here’s to hoping they last another fifteen years so Finn can go to Orlando for a drink one day.

Lego Finn Game

21 06 2008

Finn and I are playing the Indiana Jones Lego video game and really enjoying it. One of his favourite bits is that ad on the starting screen for the Batman Lego video game which is coming soon. Then, just the other day, Finn asked me if Batman Lego will have an ad for Finn Lego when it comes out.

I explained that they only made these games about characters from movies and not about normal people. Quick as a flash Finn explained that there are movies about him so there will be a game too.

Ever since Finn has been telling anyone who will listen about who will be in his video game and how they will be in levels smashing and jumping and hitting bad guys. I am pretty sure he has accepted that this game is pure fantasy but he does seem to be enjoying the idea a great deal.

Exploding Poo and Other Adventures

31 05 2008

Finn was missing his pyjama pants yesterday morning and was downright evasive about where they had gone. He has a chart for toilet-accident-free days and it seems he was worried about breaking his good spell. It turned out that he has an upset tummy so he stayed home with Mum and Leila yesterday instead of going to kinder.

He didn’t eat any dinner last night so I wasn’t surprised when he asked me for something to eat at about five in the morning. And really I wasn’t that surprised when he came to our bed at six saying he felt sick and wanted a cuddle. I’ll spare you the details but he was quite right about feeling sick and we all started today earlier than planned.

However better that it should all happen with us there to help than alone somewhere else in the house.

This afternoon he seems a bit brighter which is nice.

Leila and me are being artisters

30 05 2008

One of the great joys of having two children is watching them together. The sweet and gentle way Finn plays with Leila (when he’s not bouncing blocks off her head) almost moves me to tears. They’ve been drawing together and now they’re crawling around on the floor looking for ‘preasure’.

I couldn’t be more proud of our lovely boy at these moments.

Endangered Species

27 05 2008

Finn is very interested in endangered species at the moment. And fighting.

He tells us that when people are being naughty you have to talk to them first, then fight them. We have tried to impress on him that the first part does the trick almost all of the time but he is very taken with the idea of fighting generally.

This ties in nicely with his concern about endangered species (which I think he has learned about on the interwebs). He thinks that any animal which dies or gets killed (such as goldfish in our house) are an endangered species and we need to talk to the people or animals doing the killing. And then fight them.

The Big Switch Off

29 04 2008

Traditionally the television has been a friend to this household. While I wouldn’t say it’s been used as a babysitter, it has certainly been handy for keeping the munchkins occupied while things got done. Those days, however, have come to an end.

In recent times I’ve seen a direct correlation in Finn between poor behaviour and watching television which I’d never noticed before. We have a tantrum every time the telly has to be turned off and he is much more argumentative and naughty afterwards. So yesterday I decided that there is no more telly for the kids. I’ve even turned it off at the powerpoint.

I’ll let you know how this goes for us.
