We were really quite frustrated that Finn seemed to be ignoring us on Saturday night and Sunday morning. I know he’s a toddler and everything but all the same I was starting to get quite annoyed him refusing to look at us when we spoken to him and then ignoring what we said.
I am pretty sure I had checked his hearing aids but I obviously hadn’t done it properly because the battery in one was entirely flat and the other wasn’t far behind. So instead of boosting his hearing they were acting as ear plugs and stopping most noise.
Once we took them out and the fixed them up we were all smiles and getting along together much better. Hopefully I’ll be a bit more careful with my testing from now on.

Finn has a hearing test yesterday and did really really well. For the test he holds a marble up to his ear and drops it into a game when he hears a noise. The noise actually comes from the headphones or speakers but the game is that it comes from the marble.
The tests when he was smaller involved turning to see a puppet when he heard a noise and they used Winnie The Pooh characters which he loved and still talks about. So this time he decided that the characters were in the marbles.
When he heard the noise, which is like a whistle, his face would light up and he’d exclaim “It’s Tigger” and so forth. Not only was this a lot of fun all around but quite charming in its own slightly surreal way.

Since the recent reintroduction of bits of double sided tape on Finn hearing aids he has been very much improved in terms of keeping them in. It helps when they don’t flap about the place.
It also helps when your parents both to put your hearing aids in.

Finn is really good about his hearing aids these days but yesterday we were especially chuffed when he, for the very first time, asked Nicky to put them in for him.

Finn went off this morning to get his new set of hearing aids. They say this pair will be better at low frequencies and generally give him a less harsh sound. It is probably just my imagination but already he seems more aware of sounds around him.

Foozley went off to have his hearing testing with his hearing aids in this morning and the results were very encouraging. With his aids in his he will be able to hear all speech sounds and only miss some of the quieter environmental noises.
Hoorah for Foozley and all his ears.

Finn went to see his hearing aid people and had his ears tested again on Wednesday. Happily his ears were clear of fluid and they were able to get a good assessment of his hearing. Having done this they were able to turn his earing aids up a little.
This good news because it means he can hear better. It turns out that they don’t set them to give him no loss (for reasons I am still working on) but he certainly will now hear all speech close to him. While it has only been a couple of days the sounds me make seem to be getting clearer.
The downside is that all the noise can make him a bit grouchy and they do whistle more but that’s a small price for a better hearing Foozley.

Not so long ago I was not at all certain that Foozley would wear this hearing aids consistently until he was perhaps twenty and I was, well, a good deal more than twenty.
But now he wears them all the time. He might just pull them out perhaps twice a day but they either go straight back in or back in after five minutes.
I am looking forward to his next test so we can perhaps get them adjusted and having him with Super-Foozley-Hearing.

Foozley just destroyed his remaining hearing aid mould so he is now down to none at all. Which just means he will just have to say “what” alot until the new ones arrive in the next week.
I think I might work out how I can get them to provide me with backup moulds.
Post Script: His new moulds arrived in the mail today so we are back to four ears like we should be.

Foozley now wears his hearing aids for about seventy percent of his waking hours. Now this is probably short of what the experts want him to do but it is so far ahead of anything prior that it just makes him a star.
