We’ve had a few issues recently with Finn ‘forgetting’ to go to the toilet to do poo while playing with Lego or Thomas. While this is highly annoying and messy, we try not to make too big a deal of it in the hope that the behaviour will gradually improve. The only punishment of any type we’ve attached to it is the removal of whatever he was playing with at the time for 24 hours or so to underline the point that it’s not acceptable behaviour.
This afternoon’s effort, though, has had me close to completely losing my temper. Pooing his pants wasn’t so much the issue as smearing it on his window, window sill and wall … and the remote control for his CD player . When he followed that up by bopping me on the head with a pillow while I was picking up the toys to go out to the garage I was at the limit of my tolerance.
Little Thomas, Big Thomas and Lego have all gone out to the garage for an indefinite period and he’s staying in his room until his dad gets home. I can’t look at him without wanting to throttle him.
I never wanted to be the mother that says “Wait ’til your father gets home” but today it’s the only thing I can say without screaming.

Finn has just completed his first full week at kinder. His first two weeks were orientation so he only attended two sessions a week, instead of four and the class was halved.
This week he’s been for four half days with the whole class of 25 kids. He also had a swimming lesson on Thursday. He had a great time, but he was very tired by the end of the week.

One of the things that happens because of Finn’s hearing loss is that his speech and understanding get tested now and then just to see how he is going. For a long time we assumed he was a little behind kids of his age but we also completely understood why that would be the case.
Obviously then we are thrilled when he does a test and does even better than your average kid his age. I’m not going to go into details but it’s lovely to know our beautiful little poppet is doing really well.

Recently Finn has started telling us when he is cross with us for norging him. It seems that this is similar to both ignoring and annoying him.
Either way he doesn’t like it and let’s us know.

Finn is off to kinder this afternoon and it seems like such a big step. Of course I know that it’s a lot like childcare has been and he’s always thrived there.
All the same it seems like a big moment in a kids life and I wish I’d been there. I spoke to young Foozley on the phone and he was more interested in telling me about The Bear In The Big Blue House than kinder.
Still it’s great that he’s a kid who takes new things in his stride.
