The Best Bit of Camping

30 09 2007

I am pretty sure that the bit of camping that Finn liked most of all was settling down in front of the Tigger Movie and Piglet’s BIG Movie in the tent after dark. It’s the quintessential camping experience.

The Agreement

We’ve been making tentative efforts to get Finn to give up his dummies for a while now. Each time we’ve been so firmly rebuffed that it hasn’t been worth pushing the issue. The boy wasn’t interested in giving them up.

This morning, though, we managed to strike a bargain with him. We told him that boys who are four throw their dummies in the bin and receive a present in return. Finn thought this sounded pretty good so he agreed that, when he is four (in a couple of weeks) he will put his dummies in the bin and get a ‘prize’.

It will of course have to be a fairly impressive ‘prize’ to be adequate compensation for the dummies but, if it means being rid of them, I’m happy to pay almost any price.

Finn FM

A couple of days ago we got a new device to help Finn with his hearing. This one is especially clever and will help him heaps. It is a little thing called and FM unit. At one end is a radio mic and at the other a little receiver that clips to his hearing aid.

The short version is that we can wear the mic and he can hear us loud and clear even in noisy environments. This will be just great for childcare, kinder next year and then school.

We had a bit of a play where I walked down the hall and asked him questions. We were all very excited that we could hear me perfectly even as I was well gone.

Lousy

It had to happen to us eventually. Finn has head lice.

I took him to get his hair cut this morning and the hairdresser found the little buggers. The trim was instantly cancelled and we swung by the chemist on the way out to pick up some stuff to get rid of them.

The boy’s been treated and I will get Mark to help me do my hair this evening because, if Finn has lice, Leila and I definitely do and Mark might (although I’m not sure his hair is long enough to sustain any). Leila’s still a bit young for the insecticidal approach so I’ll be subjecting her to a regime of combing conditioner through her hair and examining the comb.

I’m itching all over.
