Smelly and Dirty

23 01 2007

Shannon sent two book to Finn for Christmas, I Stink (about a garbage truck) and I’m Dirty (about a front end loader).

It really struck me how different American books seem and I realised that pretty much everything else we read is either English or Australian. However the unusual words don’t bother Finn a bit. He loves the big vivid pictures, the highly visual text and the messy content.

We have probably read them about six times each and I feel it’s safe to say they’re a hit.

Training (The Non Thomas Kind)

23 01 2007

Finn is doing quite well with his toilet training aided in part by reward stickers at childcare and a tub of reward lollies at home.

He still has more accidents than not but I feel like we are actually moving and on the right track. By the time Leila arrives I expect it will just be nappies for bedtime.

The Next Gen

23 01 2007

Finn said tonight that Leila could have his space rocket dummy which sounded very generous to me.

Nicky tells me he explained to her the other day that he will be keeping the “spare dummy” for himself which is fair enough I guess.

Guitar Boy

I think Finn belongs in a band. Perhaps one with Arthur Dent.

Going to the Haircut Shop

17 01 2007

We’ve been talking to Finn about having his hair cut at the ‘Haircut Shop’ for the last week or so. He was none too impressed by the idea of a haircut, but was prepared to agree that having it done at the shop was better than having one at home.

Today we finally took him off to the cheap, no appointment necessary hairdresser/barber at the local shopping centre. He was quite OK with it all until his turn came. Then he turned on the waterworks.

There was quite a bit of crying, but not too much squirming and certainly no screaming so, all in all, it wasn’t a bad experience. The KitKat supplied by the hairdresser and the promise of a bouncy ball from the machine at the shop entrance probably helped a bit.

The whole thing was quicker and much less painful (for Mark & I) than using the clippers at home so we’ll definitely be doing this again. We also think the little fella looks much more swish than usual, so that’s an added incentive.

Hairy

17 01 2007

Finn came to see me while I was having a shower. He noticed a wad of hair I’d pulled out of the drain and left to one side to put in the bin when I finished.

“Mum, what happened to your hair?”
“It’s just a little bit that fell out while I was washing my hair”
“Why”
“Because that happens sometimes when grownups wash their hair”
He looked worried so I added, “It’s nothing bad”

He thought for a moment.

“Maybe Dad can take that hair and put it on”

And off he went.

A short time later he was back to look at the hair again.

“Maybe Dad can that that to the shop and get you some new hair to put on.”

A book for Shannon

17 01 2007

Finn brought me a book-shaped tin which had contained a set of dinosaur magnets he was given for Christmas - now scattered to the four winds.

“Mum, this is a story for you to read with Shannon when she comes over tomorrow.”

I didn’t have the heart to tell him it would be a while longer before we saw Shannon.

He brought it to me again a little later.

“Mum, this is a story for Shannon to read at Joanna’s house.”

Finn latest movie which we shot and edited today.

Happy Kid

13 01 2007

Finn has taken to asking us “are you happy?”

We assure him we are and ask if he is happy.

“oh yes”.

Pedal Power

7 01 2007

Finn has known about pedalling his trike for a while now but hasn’t got the hang of actually doing it. Until a couple of days ago that is.

How he can manage a good five or six revolutions on his own before losing attention of running into something. I am pretty sure in no time he’ll be pedalling like crazy and getting the hand of steering.
