Cold Feet

30 11 2006

As I went ot have a shower this morning Finn was very determined that he was going to have a bath at the same time.

The tub still had the water from his bath last night waiting to go out onto the garden. I explained to Finn that the water was too cold and even got him to dip his hand in see for himself.

All the same he was all determined and even popped a button of his Wiggles pyjamas to get undressed. He then climbed in and sat down in this stone cold water.

Tears ensured.

So I grabbed him up and we had a nice warm shower together which seemed like a better plan after all.

The Letter

29 11 2006

Dear Father Christmas,

My name is Finn and I have been very good all year long.

If it’s not too much trouble could you please bring me
- some blocks
- some engines
- some tracks

lots of love

Finn

The harmonica

28 11 2006

Finn has become quite fond of the harmonica Mark bought for me some years ago. He’s spent quite a lot of today huffing and puffing into it and making some surprisingly melodious sounds.

Who knows? Mark may one day get his wish to have someone accompany him on the harmonica.

Finn Of The Hour

26 11 2006

We had a party yesterday and Finn both had a lovely time and was an utterly lovely kid. He and Danny played happily for hours and hours. They read stories, ate dinner in the cubby, watched some Thomas and generally were charming and busy.

We probably should have put the boys to bed at some reasonable hour but before we knew it the hour had passed. Finn ended up sitting and watching is play The Singing Game and then went happily to bed without problem or complaint at half past eleven.

He Says He Doesn’t Know

25 11 2006

Just a couple of weeks ago Finn learnt the phrase “I don’t know” from his cousin Danny. Since then it’s got a real workout.

Now it’s so popular it is the default answer for any question.

Who’s coming over today?
I don’t know.
You do know, who is it?
Danny.

Exceeding Expectations

22 11 2006

The speech pathologist from Finn’s early intervention service has visited a couple of times recently to do some testing of Finn’s language skills. This was one of the objectives from the annual review we did with them and will help to determine what level he’s currently at (compared to hearing kids of his age), what areas we need to work on and what level of service will be appropriate between now and when he goes to school. It’s also a boon to over-anxious parents who are eternally concerned that perhaps he isn’t able to communicate as clearly as other kids his age.

The Force Is Strong With This One

20 11 2006

The other day Finn brought me in a pile of DVDs and announced that they were Space Robots. In his collection he had all six Star Wars films and the two cartoon discs and not a single other disc.

I was even more impressed when he pointed to the drawing of young Obi-Wan on the cartoon packet and told me it was the old man. Not a bad leap since he only knows the old man from the lego version of him in the game.

Finn was also insistent that we watch a Space Robots movie. Much as I like his enthusiasm he is at a stage where he would just be really scared by it. He did know the right place to start though and was insisting on the original film first.

It must be stamped into his DNA.

Careful He Can’t Hear You

13 11 2006

We were really quite frustrated that Finn seemed to be ignoring us on Saturday night and Sunday morning. I know he’s a toddler and everything but all the same I was starting to get quite annoyed him refusing to look at us when we spoken to him and then ignoring what we said.

I am pretty sure I had checked his hearing aids but I obviously hadn’t done it properly because the battery in one was entirely flat and the other wasn’t far behind. So instead of boosting his hearing they were acting as ear plugs and stopping most noise.

Once we took them out and the fixed them up we were all smiles and getting along together much better. Hopefully I’ll be a bit more careful with my testing from now on.

Spot On

Only Finn and Dad can play Space Robots. Space Robots makes Mum’s brain boogle.

Cars

10 11 2006

All of a sudden Finn is all interested in cars especially those who turn up on the telly. One day we saw the movie Cars on a screen in a DVD shop and Finn couldn’t stop talking about it.

It’s a bit expensive as it’s so new so we hired it for him instead and he loved it especially Lightening De Queen. We can tell him it is McQueen still we all turn blue but there is no changing his mind about his favourite car.

Finn has also become really interested in Brum which is funny since he sees it from time to time and has never showed any great interest. Just the other day we saw on old sportscar on the road which Finn decided was Brum and he’s been asking where it has gone ever since.
