When he got home yesterday Nicky helped Finn to open his present from Shannon. Naturally the packaging got a lot of attention at first but then he discovered the stickers and new toys. I don’t think Finn knows about Halloween but he sure knows about scary monsters and now he has some of his own to boss around.
Naturally he sends Shannon a big thank you.
Shannon’s present for Finn has just arrived a few minutes after he went to childcare. It will make his day when he gets home to open it.
This is six months old now but people might still be interested.
It’s a bit late in the making but here is Finn latest movie.
We have been playing Uno for a few nights now with a Seseame Street deck and mostly Finn has just held his cards and played with them. Then he started noticing that some were the same as each other.
Last night be pretty much took part in the game which was exciting for us. He has all his cards spread out so it was easy for us to help him.
Hopefully we’ll keep it up and he’ll learn how to actually play pretty soon.
Finn is so excited about Space Robots that he often says it only in an excited whisper as if he doesn’t dare say it out loud.
His favourites are Aunty DeeToo and 3CPO and he can remember which door each of them opens which is more than I can do. He knows Bobba Fett and Han Solo and even knows that Han Solo went to sleep in his special bed and someone took him away in a spaceship.
When something, such as a Death Star, explodes he explains that it went kaboomf.
He also remembers quite specific things about the boy’s (Luke Skywalker) hand being knocked off by the Naught Robot and how 3CPO was broken but ther Wookie made him again (in the cloud city for those wondering.
It’s all very touching for this middle aged nerd.

We visited the ‘little doctor’ (Finn’s term for the local doctor. We think the ‘big doctor’ might be the hospital) this afternoon to get the Foozle cleared for his return to childcare. His spots are pretty much all gone and those that remain either have scabs on them or are rapidly fading. The doctor agreed that he’s looking very good and he’ll be back at childcare on Thursday.
Although I do love spending time with Finn, I’ll be very relieved to have him back in his normal routine and, I suspect, once he gets over the culture shock of going back to all that noise and movement, so will he. Keeping a toddler corraled in the house and garden for a week and a half is no fun for anyone involved. As his chicken pox improved we did take him out each day (today we took the dogs to the beach), but it’s not the same as hanging out with the other kids all day and the cracks have started to show.
We’ve gone back to bedtime battles and he was up until nearly 10pm one night trying to avoid going to bed. This afternoon, while he was supposed to be sleeping, I went to investigate some banging coming from his room to find that a certain someone had taken all the baskets out of the unit his clothes are kept in, emptied them and stacked them neatly by the bed. All his clothes, along with his doona and pillow were piled on his change mat. I had to decline his insistent offer to help clean up as he was just making more of a mess and I thought I might have to kill him, just to be able to put his clothes away. Yesterday this is what I found when I went to wake him from his afternoon sleep.
Today Finn had his very first babychino which is actually just a cup of milk froth. Normally I would never buy him such a thing but the kind lady gave us one with Nicky’s tea.
He was doing pretty well on the froth but when it came to the milk he drank it all at once and prompty spat it out all over himself.
It did spoil the sophistication of the moment some.
