Battered But Happy

Battered But Happy

Finn has been in the wars recently but seems pretty happy despite it all. About a week ago he ran into a door at childcare and that’s what the top mark is about. Then yesterday he was reaching for something under the table and hit the table with his face. That is what the other mark and the black eye is about.

Luckily he is still a very pretty kid even when a little battered.

Aunty!

25 08 2005

Foozley spent the day with Aunty Rad and he has a ball. I can’t remember the last time I saw him so happy at five o’clock at night. They read books, went for walks, watched a soap opera and obvious he loved every bit of it.

Hoorah for Rad and hoorah for young Foozley.

Bookworm

Finn has a lovely collection of books which he has been polite about but not especially interested. We have read to him but probably not so much as we should have.

A couple of weeks back Finn and I did some reading for this video I was working on about reading to boys and he suddenly showed a greatly increased interest.

Since then his interest has only increased. When he gets out of his cot in the morning the first thing he does it sit down with a book. It is almost as if he has been eyeing them off from bed. Today we let him take a small book to bed for his midday sleep and when Nicky went to check on him at about three he was just sitting happily looking at his book.

This is all very exciting for all of us really. I personally read really late but it looks like Finn is tracking very well indeed.

Foozley See Foozley Do

Hey Presto!

We had a lovely game of copying each other with various actions after dinner. Of course it included hands on heads, hands on nose, hands on ears and also where’s Finn and the Amazing Magic Trick With The Glass.

There are a few more photos here if anyone is interested, they’re very cute.

Things That Go Bump In The Day

The Boy Who Lived

Today Finn ran into a doorframe (really) and had a rather nasty bump on his head. However all he has now is a pretty impressive mark where it happened.

Get Back! I Have A Brush

I wonder if there is much in the world that is more cute than a toddler fresh out of the bath and into his jim jams.

The Banana Incident

16 08 2005

Last time something this big happened a star rose in the east. Last night Finn wolfed down his dinner which happens but not a whole lot. So I chopped up a nice fresh banana and cut it up for us all to share. Not because bananas are such as scarce resource but so he would see everyone was eating it.

Anyhow he just took a piece and stuffed it in his mouth. Then another. Then two at a time. He probably ate half of the banana in the space of two minutes.

Up to this point he has regarded bits of fruit as highly suspect and probably poisoned. If they were all mashed up and warm they had a chance of being eaten but other than that no chance at all until now.

Needless to say we are pretty excited by this sudden interest in fruit.

Boy and Biscuit Vs. The Puppy

15 08 2005

We have a collection of wheat biscuits for Foozley to munch on for snacks. I had some doubts that he would go for them since they are pretty bland but he is very fond of them.

This morning, since it is raining and miserable outside, puppies have been inside but have left Finn alone. That was up until the second I saw said biscuit in the mouth of a puppy on one end and being gripped by a toddler at the other.

Sadly the puppy won but now she is cooling down outside for her sins. Finn charged into the kitchen, a little distressed, but was consoled by a replacement biscuit.

PS. Just as I was about to post this he charged up to Indiana and gave her his biscuit which she gingerly accepted and ate.

Twenty Two Months

14 08 2005

First Drink Of The Day

Tomorrow Finn will be twenty-two months old although it feels like he has been with us forever.

I vaguely remember how we waited for him to crawl and then walk and the worry in the back of my mind about when and if that would happen. Now he charges around like a force of nature. Uneven footpaths, the slope of the driveway, and the small step at the front door all pose no challenge for him and his highly mobile ways.

And while is he is not talking as such he is picking up words each and every week. He still doesn’t say much and the formation of the words it still rough but he is clearly getting there. Telly is called “teae” rather than “Boohbah” and dogs are called “doah” rather than “sit” which always sounded just a bit like shit. Mum is called mum and her name is often invoked. Dad sometimes get a mention although all you can really tell is that it is not mum.

Food-wise young Finn eats most things although still prefers things mashed rather than whole. He is especially fond of bread and butter and thinks if he turned away enough other food then he will score some of this.

He is in the Toodler Room at childcare and seems to be doing really well there and comes home happy but very very tired.

On the telly front he asks for Boohbah most of all but quite likes The Wiggles, Play School (”open why”), Bananas In Pyjamas and The Fimbles.

Finn loves to draw. He has an easel that is much loved. He also likes to draw in books but is not fussy about which ones. And, if allowed, will decorate the walls a little. He is just starting to draw inside of shapes you give him which is very cute. He will also ask for specific things to be drawn like a star or cat.

All in all he is just a lovely kid who will be two years old in just two months. I guess we should start planning his party.

Words By The Bucket

11 08 2005

Finn words are really coming along and we guess he probably picks up two or three each week. Not that he uses them all the time and they are words rather than talking as such but it is all good.

In about a week he will have lovely new green hearing aid moulds which should make them work a bit better (the current ones are a bit loose on account of his growing).
