The Swimming Funster

28 05 2004

Just now I went and booked the Funster into swimming classes for the small and brave.

Unfortunately there was only a space for the Tuesday 9am class so we will have to go without Nicky for this term anyway. Not that she would have been swimming with us but it is always nice to have some support for these things.

First Teeth

You’ll have to have a close look but you can just see them.

Crying Boy

24 05 2004

Finn is normally a good sleeper once he is down. But tonight he had been down for an hour or so when he just started screaming.

So I went and rubbed his tummy but to no avail. So we got him up and cuddled him, the incredibly screaming continued. So we walked around, more screaming. We gave him some ribena and that didn’t work, normally he loves it.

In the end we gave him some baby panadol because we thought it might be his teeth (which are now coming through). A few minutes later he calmed down and went to bed.

Hopefully he will be all happy again in the morning.

By and large he is a Parent-Fed-Funster but now and then he manages to take control of things.

The Boy and The Bottle

21 05 2004

For the first part of his bottle Captain Foozle manages to get it right. Later on when the level drops in the botton and rise in the boy he needs a little help.

No But Thank You Very Much For Asking

20 05 2004

Another things the Funster has started doing is shaking his head. It is probably just for fun but sometimes it is at a time that makes you quite certain he is saying no to things.

More news on this soon I am sure.

7 months

20 05 2004

Finn hit the ripe old age of 7 months last Saturday and in the last week we would swear that the baby thief and been back and swapped munchkins on us again. The Foozle of today seems a much different kid than the Foozle of only a couple of weeks ago.

Nothing within arm’s reach is safe anymore. Finn’s been reaching out for stuff for a while but he has recently become much quicker, more determined and selective. He chooses his target and isn’t really happy with anything else.

He’s also got the hang of rolling both from back to front and front to back, but still mostly in the one direction. He combines the rolling with wriggling and using his feet to push himself backwards to get to whatever he wants to reach. He’s fallen off the spare bed once so, although we were already pretty careful, we really can’t leave him unattended on the beds, couch or change table.

Sitting up is something else he’s working on too. We play ’sit up and fall over’ games on our bed and I’m finding that the ’sit up’ part of the game is starting to last a good 10-20 seconds before the ‘fall over’ bit.

The Foozle’s personality is also starting to shine through. Displeasure is expressed quite forcefully when he’s put to bed, put down when he wants to be held, or when his toys won’t co-operate with him.

Emmylou has become his special friend. She’s always greeted by open arms, grasping hands and big smiles. Hoobert (his bear) has become his bedtime friend. Hoobert’s growler (although it sounds more like a cow mooing) is almost guaranteed to turn the bedtime frown upside down!

And then there’s the first tooth, which has just broken the surface. It’s not very visible yet (not least because Finn won’t open his mouth enough for us to look), but you can feel it when you put your finger in his mouth and hear it when he chews on a metal spoon.

Hooray for the Funster!

Cat By The Tail

18 05 2004

This morning Zelda made the mistake of walking past Finn’s hands.

And the next this I knew the cat was going nowhere, it was quite funny although not for the cat. I suspect he didn’t even realise he was holding the cat, it was just something to grab.

EmmyLou, on the other hand, is greeted with open arms quite literally. The Funster’s face lights up when she comes near and she thinks she is getting pats.

It’s all good.

The Mildly Sick Foozle

13 05 2004

The Funster has had a bit of an upset bottom and a mild case of diarrhea. We think it might be from his cold of last week and me using filtered rather than boiled water for his formula.

Happily it looks like the worst of it has passed and he is home with me and currently having a little sleep.

The Jolly Jumper

11 05 2004

The Funster now has a Jolly Jumper which is a bit like a parachute harness on a frame.

He loves it and bounces around.
