A Sick Funster

28 04 2004

Well Captain Foozle has a cold at the moment. Nothing earth shattering but it is the first time that he has been sick as such. His nose is all snotty and he is a bit wheezy which is none to good.

We tried having him sleep in our room so we could hear his breathing better but the cradle was really too small and he just made a racket making it move. So we moved to a plan B that worked much better.

Happily he is happy enough today and with any luck with shake this off fairly soon.

Six Months Checkup

27 04 2004

Well the Funster and I went for his six month visit to the maternal health nurse who told me nothing I did already know.

She did mention he is in the top 10% of kids of height, weight, and head size. I think we knew that.

But all it well and it is two months before he has to go back again.

Secret Names

21 04 2004

When he arrived I think Nicky said “It’s a Finn”. We had settled on that some weeks before the birth.

Perhaps his first secret name was Comedy Boy. That was because he would desperately want to feed then pretend like he didn’t care when offered milk.

Then he became the Funster. Not sure where that came from but is seemed appropriate. Sometimes he is Captain Funster or Funster McBunster McBean.

More recently he has been Foozle Bottom, Captain Foozle and sometimes just Foozle.

Names come and go but sometimes it is a little sad when you realise that a particular name has run its course.

The Boy And The Trees

20 04 2004

The Funster likes looking at trees, he seems to find them endlessly interesting.

So we went for a walk today to the park along the creek because I thought that he might enjoy all the trees. You don’t see a lot of them in the west but happily there are dozens along the creek.

But the boy wasn’t impressed today. Perhaps tomorrow.

Six Months Today

15 04 2004

Well the boy is six months old today. It seems like only yesterday I was staring blankly at a pregnancy test wondering what two bars meant.

And now we have a little boy living with us. He even has hair growing on what was the bald bit he sleeps on. He chats away. He eats solids. He reaches out and grabs things. He smiles and stuffs everything thing he can into his mouth.

He also rolls over, just this week. At this stage only tummy to back but he’ll work it out.

And any minute now he’ll be one.

Six Month Old Today

15 04 2004

Today is the Funster’s first Half-Birthday.

Like most things to do with him it is amazing to think that he’s been with us for six whole months and at the same time a bit of a surprise that it’s only been that long because he seems to have always been here.

He’s growing and changing so fast. Every day there seems to be something new that he does. Rolling from front to back confidently. Blowing raspberries. Reaching out to touch everything he sees. Putting his arms out to be picked up. Eating potatoe, sweet potatoe, carrot, banana and sweet corn quite happily. He’s still not impressed by rice cereal, broccoli, brussels sprouts or apple. Drinking water from a sippy cup Grabbing his bottle to guide it to his mouth. Sucking on his big toe.

Happy Half-Birthday, Captain Foozle.

Roly Poly Baby

13 04 2004

Mark rang me to report that Finn rolled from his stomach to his back this morning - twice. Once for the video camera.

The Funster still seems to prefer to do pretzel impressions when lying on his back, but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before he rolls the other way.

Rolling today. Taking over the world tomorrow.
