Domestic Roaming

It is hard to be anything like sensible about your own childhood and the fact is that the world has changed. Not Jetsons-type-change but it is different all the same.

But it does seems that the mild freedoms we allowed kids when I was one are considered damn close to negligent these days. Nicky’s sister took her nine year old daughter and a friend to the movies and left them alone in the cinema for fifteen minutes because she had to move her car. The friend’s mother nearly had kittens when told.

In our street you see kids playing with other kids with no obvious adults around (perhaps because this is a court) but driving around you pretty much never see it.

Now I am not advocating dangling kids in front of crocodiles left right and centre but it strikes me that kids need room to make little mistakes. I might actually suck when it comes to practicing this but I hope I’ll be grown up enough to let Finn be a kid.

Lesson for the day - the real trick to many things is not wigging out.
