Last night Finn slept through from a little after ten to a little before seven this morning. There were a few noises and hollers here and there but no feeds or changes or real awake time at all.
I don’t imagine he is going to repeat this remarkable performance every night quite yet but it was still encouraging.

Today we went to look at a couple of child care places for the Funster while I am at uni two days a week.
So far they both seemed good but we want to check out other options before we make a decision.

Last night we woke the Funster for a ten o’clock feed as we would like him to sleep through as much of the night as he can. Getting him awake was a bit of fun but he had a decent feed and then slept until 6am this morning.
Hoorah.
Let’s just see if we can make this a habit.

It is hard to be anything like sensible about your own childhood and the fact is that the world has changed. Not Jetsons-type-change but it is different all the same.
But it does seems that the mild freedoms we allowed kids when I was one are considered damn close to negligent these days. Nicky’s sister took her nine year old daughter and a friend to the movies and left them alone in the cinema for fifteen minutes because she had to move her car. The friend’s mother nearly had kittens when told.
In our street you see kids playing with other kids with no obvious adults around (perhaps because this is a court) but driving around you pretty much never see it.
Now I am not advocating dangling kids in front of crocodiles left right and centre but it strikes me that kids need room to make little mistakes. I might actually suck when it comes to practicing this but I hope I’ll be grown up enough to let Finn be a kid.
Lesson for the day - the real trick to many things is not wigging out.

Not so many weeks ago the Funster was born with blue eyes but I believe that most babies are. I kind of hoped they would stay, Nicky has blue eyes and they are lovely indeed.
Happily thirteen weeks later they are still lovely and blue. They might change yet but so far so good on the lovely blue eyes front.

On account of Rad having minor hearing loss we took the Funster off to get checked out. he is pretty lively so we had no real worries going in.
Much to our surprise it look like he might have a similar level of loss to Rad. This is to say that he won’t hear super well but should do just fine. He might need a hearing aid or he might be able to muddle through some things. We’ll need more tests to be sure.
It was a bit of a shock but we quickly realised that he is a lively, noisy, interested and active kids and it’s going to take a lot more than asking people to repeat themselves sometimes to slow this one down.

Last night the Funster and I went for his second vaccination yesterday and the Civic Centre.
It was mentally busy but he was a little trooper for the half hour we spent in line. He only started to cry just before they got to sticking a needle into him so in a sense he was ahead of the game.
After ten minutes of screeching and crying he calmed down and we even had smiles in the car.
Unfortunately today he has had a little bit of fever today and is a little out of sorts. Which happens sometimes.
