All Awake Boy

30 11 2003

We are very lucky in that Finn is what they called A Very Good Baby. Generally when he cries there is a good reason and once you fix that then all is well.

But with the hot weather he doesn’t settle at all during the day and it is safe to say that after a while that gets a bit tiring, especially in the heat. Happily he settles pretty well at night and sleep for four or five hours straight when he is doing well.

Exploring

29 11 2003

This morning Finn and I have been Quite Busy.

First of all there was breakfast, then a walk and then a bath.

But most excitingly we found a park on our walk. Not just any park but the first real park in our estate. There is a little playground at the land sales office but it is a bit close to the main road and really just there for show. Having said that the puppies have been known to run up and down the slide with my merriment.

But this is a real full sized park with play equipment, a half basket-ball court and what will one day be a little grove of trees.

It was all Just A Bit Exciting.

I missed another smile but Nicky and the camera were there.

Smile

I was out when it happened but yesterday Finn smiled at Nicky.

If I had to choose she would be the one I would smile at too.

Morning person

22 11 2003

Although Finn hasn’t slotted into much of a routine yet, there is one habit he’s taken to. He’s very much a morning person.

Most of the time (not this morning…) he wakes between 6.30 and 7.30. He starts the day very alert and chirpy, regarding the world with an open, inquisitive gaze. It can be quite difficult to hold him at this time because he turns his head constantly to look at things and he’s always trying to see what’s behind him.

After a feed it’s either a change of nappy, or some nappy-less time. For ‘Free Willy’ time Finn usually lies on the couch or his playmat wearing a nappy sarong or loin cloth so that he can kick and wave his legs around freely. He looks at his toys or out the window and talks happily away for ages - generally until his sarong has become a bit wet and cold. At this point we’ll pick him up, put a nappy on him and settle down for a chat.

When he shows signs of tiring we start to get him ready to go back to bed. I’ll wrap him up and either put on a CD to sing along to or cuddle him close for more of a talk. Yesterday I started reading The Hobbit out loud to him. He liked that so we’ll keep going.

Once his eyelids start to droop, we’ll move into his room. We either sit in the rocking chair for little while or, if he seems sleepy enough, I’ll put him in his bed, switch on Radio Free Finn and shut the door behind me.

By this stage it’s around 9.00 am and time for breakfast, showers and the newspaper.

Grumbly Boy

18 11 2003

Today little Finn doesn’t seem to feel much like settling or sleeping. Happily he is not crying uncontrollably or anything like that but I think we’ll both be happy when he goes to sleep.

Happily I think we are only days away from his first smile which is pretty exciting.

Hopefully little Finn will get his mother’s dancing skills not mine.
