Finn has been a good sleeper so far and since we have had him sleeping on the bed between us.
But last night he was not so good. First there were lots of googly noises and he was only managing about two hours at a time and then being difficult to settle.
So finally we got up and watched some Buffy on dvd. When we wakes I figure he can have some expressed milk from a bottle. I actually gave him his first bottle (from me) yesterday. It was kind of nice to have him looking so pleased to be in my arms.
For now it is just nice that he is having a sleep.

Baby Finn is in a bit of a grumbly mood this morning. Nicky has been trying to calm him but I thought it only fair that I should look after him so she could have a shower and feel all human again.
I didn’t have much luck holding him but a combination of his dummy (only really used at times like these) and this mobile that plays “It’s A Small World” did the trick and he is awake but only slightly complaining now.

The stump of Finn’s umbilical cord fell off today.
It had been hanging by a thread for the last couple of days, driving us nuts as we resisted the urge to pull it off and probably bugging Finn a bit too.
When Mark changed Finn’s nappy a couple of hours ago it had finally come off and was running around loose in his clothes.
We haven’t saved it. I know some people do, but that’s just a little bit icky for me.

Finn was born two weeks ago today (and yes, we’re probably going to celebrate his birthday weekly for a while).
It’s hard to believe that only that long ago I was lying in a hospital bed, feeling pretty crappy, but utterly astonished by the munchkin’s presence.
Today I feel much, much better and I’m still kind of astonished.
Happy 2 week birthday, baby boy…

We took Finn of for his first visit to the Maternal Health Centre and he is gaining weight and quite fine. Naturally he screamed and carried on when he was undressed but I am not at all sure I would behave differently if it was me.

Everyone is our house has a secret name but we are taking a little while to work out what Finn’s is.
Two likely candidates are Grizzle Bottom and Comedy Boy. He can be very funny, especially when we decides that he is just too sleepy to feed but as soon as you take him away he starts opening his mouth and searching for food.
Time will tell what his names are.

About an hour ago Finn had his first ever bottle of expressed milk.
Books and so forth tell you that you have to be careful with breast-fed babies and bottles but he feeds pretty well so we should be fine.
Anyhow he took to it a treat and guzzled most of it. He seems quite happy and content, clearly not aware that he had the old switcheroonie done on him.
In less ground-breaking news Nicky gave him a little facial (for his little face). Now he looks like a moofie star also. Soon he’ll want his own trailer.

The baby boy and I are now here, typing very slowly, on account of him starting to have grumbles.
As Nicky and I just noticed his face is a bit dry even if the other end is always not.

Finn has made his first forays into the outside world over the last couple of days and they’ve gone extremely well.
The first was a trip to the local shopping centre yesterday for lunch and a wee bit of shopping. This required the presence of both parents and an aunt, but was basically pretty uneventful as the munchkin did a very good job of sleeping through all of it.
Then there was the neighbourhood barbecue last night. We had Finn well rugged up against the cold and he remained suitably cute and asleep for about an hour and a half, before indicating that it might be time to head home.
Today we went on a much bigger trip to a shopping centre (of sorts) on the other side of town. Again the munchkin did really well, although the lights in one of the shops tested his endurance a bit. On the way home we made a pitstop at Grandma & Grandad’s for a top up to make the rest of the trip a bit easier.
The only downside is that Finn has been rather grumpy since we got home, but with any luck he’ll get it out of his system early and we’ll have a good night’s sleep.
